THE DORK MANUAL
Install Dork on macOS
Dork’s researcher-facing client is the Electron desktop app. macOS is the primary platform. Use the build supplied through your Dork invitation or the official download when a release is available.
Release availability
Check the Mac download page for the current public release. If it says the release is coming soon, use only an invitation build supplied by Dork and follow its installation instructions.
Install an available build
- Download the Mac disk image from the official Dork release or your trusted invitation source.
- Open the image and copy Dork into Applications.
- Open Dork from Applications.
- Follow the sign-in steps, then complete your Lab’s setup checks.
If macOS blocks the app, check the build’s provenance and the instructions supplied with that build. Do not disable Gatekeeper or remove quarantine protections to make an unexpected download run. Ask your Dork contact for a supported build if its identity cannot be established.
Updates
Update behavior depends on how your app was built. Production builds are designed to verify a signed update feed and save drafts before applying an update. Development builds may instead ask you to download a disk image and replace Dork in Applications.
When Dork says updates are paused, keep the existing app and follow its recovery message. For Your update history is missing. Updates are paused, use Check for updates again. For a clock warning, correct your Mac’s date and time, then reopen Dork. Do not delete app settings to bypass an update hold.
Installing the desktop app does not install a fully usable local Lab on every Mac. Hosted Labs run research on a separate machine.
