THE DORK MANUAL

Getting started

Dork is a desktop workspace for directing AI researchers on ML, AI, and mathematical questions. You choose the problem, judge the evidence, and decide what to pursue. Start with a question whose first result you can inspect: an experiment, a counterexample, a literature comparison, or a precise obstruction.

Prepare your Lab

  1. Install Dork on your Mac.
  2. Open Dork and choose New cloud Lab if you have an invitation. Follow sign-in to connect your Dork access and ChatGPT plan.
  3. Complete the setup checks. If a step says Not ready yet or cannot be read, retry that step; do not treat it as complete.
  4. Review the provider’s data terms before adding unpublished work. A local Lab still sends permitted context to an external model when you use one.

Local setup depends on the research tools and protected execution environment available on your computer. The Mac app’s presence does not establish that local execution is supported by your installation. Use a hosted Lab when local preparation cannot complete.

Send a bounded question

In What are you working on?, describe the question in your own words. Include your assumptions, the evidence you want back, and the first experiment to try. For example:

Compare two explanations for this classifier’s calibration drift. Start with a reproducible test on a public dataset, report the sample sizes and metric definitions, and distinguish observations from hypotheses.

Review the assignment and model before sending. GPT-6.1 Sol is the planned launch default. Current Labs are restricted to Luna. Use the model actually offered by your Lab. See providers and models.

Read the return

Open the assignment’s report. Read the evidence label before the narrative. Not checked remains unverified even when the account sounds confident. A finite experiment does not establish a general claim.

Use Triage to record usefulness, corrections, and follow-up questions. Keep the first assignment small enough that reviewing the return costs less than repeating the work yourself.
